Tenor Aaron Humble brings to Cantus many years of
professional and academic musical experience. While pursuing undergraduate
and advanced degrees, Aaron worked as a conductor, singer, and clinician.
A native of Northeast Ohio, music has always been a vital part of Aaron’s life but it
wasn’t until Aaron was 14 that he started seriously pursuing vocal
music.
While at Millikin University, Aaron collaborated with the Dean
of the College of Fine Arts to secure over $30,000 in grant money from
the Illinois Arts Council to fund an opera outreach program. After implementing
the program, Aaron served as the Student Director of the program from
1997-1999. While at Indiana University, Aaron served as Director of Music
at St. Paul United Methodist Church while also serving the Columbus Indiana
Philharmonic as Choral Contractor.
A sampling of Aaron’s operatic
credits include Tamino in Die Zauberflote, Jenik in the Bartered
Bride,
Pedrillo in Die Einfuhrung Aus Dem Serail, Martin in The
Tenderland,
Harlequin in Der Kaiser von Atlantis, Pinkerton in Madama
Butterfly,
and Sam in Susannah.
Aaron has sung recital and oratorio throughout the
United States and the United Kingdom. Oratorio credits include: Handel's
Messiah and Israel in Egypt, Seven
Last Words of Christ (Dubois and
MacMillan), Mozart’s
Requiem, Schubert’s Mass in G, Schumann's Die
Rose Pilgerfahrt,
Mendelsohn's Lobgesang, Bender's St. Mark's
Passion, Gounod’s Misse
Solemnelle, Buxtehude’s Membra Jesu Nostri as well as numerous
Bach Cantatas.
As a student and scholar, Aaron has focused much of his
study on American Music, most especially the development of the American
vocal repertoire. From William Billings to commissions by up-and-coming
young composers, Aaron enjoys singing American music of all kinds. With
his varied interest in opera, oratorio, art song, and choral music, Aaron
enjoys sharing his passion for music with people of all ages. As a musician,
Aaron strongly believes that music is a way to connect people from all
walks of life. It is music with this potential that is truly inspiring.
When he's not singing with Cantus, Aaron enjoys reading, film, cooking
and baking. Aaron also enjoys home improvement projects and helping out
his friends as well. Most of all, Aaron relishes any opportunity to spend
time bicycling, paddling or cross-country skiing through Minnesota's
natural beauty. In addition to his hobbies, Aaron spends time volunteering
and advocating for urban issues, especially transit, in the Metro.
