Paul Rudoi, tenor

Paul Rudoi Hometown: Keene, NH

Education: BM Vocal Performance, The Hartt School

Ever since he was ten years old, Paul has been singing with professional choirs. From 1996 to 2000 Paul attended The American Boychoir School where, under the batons of James Litton, Joseph Flummerfelt, and Kurt Masur, he sang with such artists as Michael W. Smith, Peter Schreier, Michael Crawford, and Chanticleer. In high school he continued his passion for choral singing, performing with The Blanche Moyse Chorale, The Sons of Orpheus, The Arizona and New Hampshire All State Festival Choirs, The New England Festival Choir, and the University of Arizona Community Chorus' chamber ensemble.

Paul has been increasing his repertoire base for roles in both musical theater and opera ever since high school, where he sang Tevye in Fiddler on the Roof. At Hartt, he continued to perform in both the graduate and undergraduate opera productions. These included Gianni Schicchi, The Merry Widow, Floyd's Susannah, Gilbert and Sullivan's Trial By Jury, and Offenbach's Orpheus in the Underworld. He has also performed with Commonwealth Opera as The Padre in Man of La Mancha, and with The International Lyric Academy of Viterbo, Italy, as Monastatos in Die Zauberflote.

As a soloist, Paul's credits include the title role in Carissimi's Jonas oratorio, a premiere of a new work, Seeker of Truth, by Juliana Hall, and singing a chamber setting of Bach's Cantata 78, Jesu der du meine seele, in the style of Joshua Rifkin. He has sung in masterclasses with Cornelius Reid, Peter Kazaras, Joshua Rifkin, Cynthia Munzer, and Gary Glaze, and has studied with Grayson Hirst, Jerome Pruett, Cherie Caluda, and Andrea Del Guidice.

Though Paul's focus is in voice, he pursues his hobby of composition with almost the same amount of intensity. He premiered a cycle of three songs for voice and piano, set to texts by Sara Teasdale, in early 2008. He is currently writing an oratorio based entirely on religious poetry and quotations as well as a viola concerto for a friend back on the east coast. Considering his background in the choral tradition however, his main passion is to compose works for vocal ensembles. The Zeta Omega chapter of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, a national music fraternity of which Paul is a member, premiered his "Song of Unity" this past spring. Another choral work, "The Birds", is set to be performed this coming fall.

Though he considers his music to be his hobby, Paul also enjoys reading great biographies and novels, biking, hiking, people watching, eating great food, and photography.
